Where We Come From, Where We Stand, and Where We’re Going

Building Renegade Racing has been a true passion project. Every summer the fire seems to burn even stronger. It’s hard to believe it’s already been over four years since Jack and I first started working together and this idea was born. From back-to-back strong results at the Junior World Ski Championships GS to winning FIS races, it’s been one hell of an adventure. We’ve been fortunate enough to cultivate a different approach to skiing, it’s fluid with strong core principles and constantly under iteration.
At heart, we’re a crew of ski bums living life on the road, chasing winter from one mountain to the next. We’ve chosen to do this sport our way, aiming for extraordinary quality, but staying authentic and keeping ourselves open to mistakes. We celebrate skiing as a unique possibility of living this life.
Last season wasn’t easy. There were days we felt like we had so much left in the tank, yet also knew we’d given everything. It’s draining when the plan is clear and within reach, but you still fall just short. But we remind ourselves, almost religiously: The only thing that matters is the process. Skiing, in that way, becomes a metaphor for life, a constant practice of showing up, learning, and adapting. We’ve faced headwinds, but we’ve learned to smile into the face of adversity and say: “TRY ME.”
Winter 24/25 proved that again. The failures, as always, were the most important part. There’s a lot of dirt to dig through on the way to the goal, and you’d better learn to enjoy the digging. In the end, things have a strange way of coming together exactly as they should. Always.
I could write endlessly about how it all fits together, about our philosophy and the state of our sport, but I’ll leave that for another day where I will elaborate deeper on the topic. Right now, one thing is certain: in ski racing, a massive amount of potential is still locked away, trapped somewhere between tradition and outdated dogma.
This season, changes are bringing fresh energy. Tommy has switched nationalities and can now fully focus on his personal path. Time is, after all, a relative concept, and I see him surprising many. We’ve built out our coaching staff and added two huge talents from Switzerland, Mauro and Alec, who bring new drive to the group. And Jack? Jack is Jack. I trust him completely — never doubt “il biondo”.
Looking at this team, I know we can achieve a lot together. But first comes the savage work. Skiing has an almost unfathomable amount of untapped potential, and I feel like not enough people see that any more. It fills me with a lot of pride to be able to build our own unique system at this point in time, it appears that the age of something new is about to dawn, not just in skiing, but life in general.
For now, we’ll enjoy the last calm of summer before the storm. I can already hear the winds beginning to howl.
Until then, never forget my friends:
SKIING IS A PRIVILEGE.
Cheers,
Lukas
